I collect rituals the way other people collect stamps.

Coffee made a particular way. A toast before the first glass of wine. The morning routine on a boat with no wifi. Not because they’re quaint

– because they outlive the people who kept them. A ritual is how a place’s history becomes one person’s daily conviction, and how that conviction gets handed down without anyone writing it as a lesson. 

CherryPix started as a way to write about my travels. The places, the people, the light, the song. It’s become something a bit more specific: an ongoing attempt to notice the small repeated acts that tell you who someone really was. A glass of whisky that’s more about the tradition than the tasteS 

A brave woman knowing her worth. A grandmother’s recipe that’s really a story about survival. The particular way a certain harbour town still marks the end of summer.

I’m Deniz, a sailor, a novelist, an incurably curious person who has lived in more places than is probably good for anyone’s sense of home.
